The Geography of the Rymill Family
In my research I found that the Rymill side
of my family originated around Banbury. Pushing further back,
the family appeared to occupy small villages in the surrounding
area, specifically Deddington. I decided to examine the frequency
of Rymill births based upon the census documents.

The above graphic shows (left) the density of Rymills born
between 1760 and 1780, and (right) shows Rymills born between
1850 and 1890. There is no question that the family and this
surname is centred upon Oxfordshire when examining the births
from the last two hundred and fifty years.
This next map shows location of all the Rymills which I have
come across when researching my family in that area. The concentric
circles radiate out from Deddington in 5 mile divisions because
Deddington is the birth-place of all my earliest-known ancestor,
and therefore I judge all the Rymills I find in relation to
this, in order to determine their likely relationship to my
direct family.

For example, I have found Rymill families sharing similar
christian names to those in my family living a mere mile away
in Clifton during the same census year. Clearly there is some
relationship between these families but further research is
required to determine if they are brothers or cousins, or
more distantly related. I am certain that the high frequency
of the Rymill name (and its variants such as Rymal and Rimell)
in the same area shows that they are all the same family,
however distantly related.
